Rotator Cuff Pain

What is Rotator Cuff Pain?

The rotator cuff consists of four small muscles and their tendons that stabilize the shoulder joint, keeping the head of the humerus (the upper arm bone) securely in the shoulder socket. Strains or injuries to the rotator cuff are common and can result from acute events or repetitive strain. "Rotator cuff impingement" occurs when the tendons become compressed or pinched due to overcrowding in the shoulder area.

Symptoms:

  • Localized pain in the front and outside of the shoulder
  • Pain that may radiate down the arm
  • Increased pain at night
  • Acute injury may involve a “tearing” or “snapping” sensation

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in the wrist that houses the median nerve and tendons. Compression or irritation of the median nerve can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, commonly caused by prolonged wrist flexion or repetitive movements.

Symptoms:

  • Numbness, tingling, or discomfort on the palm side of the thumb, index, middle finger, and half of the ring finger
  • Discomfort extending towards the elbow
  • Symptoms often begin as nighttime discomfort or waking with numb hands

Knee Pain

What is Knee Pain?

Knee pain can result from various factors, including injuries, medical conditions like arthritis, or overuse. Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS), also known as “runner’s knee,” is a common cause of knee pain due to misalignment of the kneecap.

Symptoms:

  • Dull pain behind the kneecap
  • Aggravation from walking, running, squatting, jumping, or climbing stairs
  • Pain worsening when walking downhill or downstairs
  • Possible popping, grinding, or giving way of the knee

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD)

What is TMJD?

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD) involves pain in the temporomandibular joint, which connects the jaw to the skull. TMJD can result from muscle imbalances, jaw clenching, teeth grinding, poor posture, or stress.

Symptoms:

  • Jaw clicking or limited mouth opening
  • Possible jaw locking
  • Pain in front of the ear canal
  • Discomfort spreading to the face, head, neck, and shoulders
